Wenger backs Cesc to be Fab

(31-08-2010) Arsene Wenger has backed Cesc Fabregas to hit his usual highs this season despite the furore over the transfer saga with Barcelona. The Arsenal talisman pledged his future to the Gunners last month after strong interest from the Spanish giants, the club he played for and supported as a boy. "He will be the player he was before without any problem and he will be stronger,” insisted Wenger. "And of course I think he will, once he is fit again, be involved mentally in the team. He is the leader of our team and he has a massive responsibility. I am convinced he will stand up for it." The 24-year-old featured in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Blackburn – his first start of the season – and was replaced after 68 minutes. It was Fabregas’ first game since the World Cup final on 11 July.
