Villa eyeing former Spurs boss

(16-08-2010) Aston Villa want to make former Tottenham boss Martin Jol their next manager. Jol is currently in charge of Ajax Amsterdam but has expressed an interest in returning to the EPL. The Dutch giants claim they will release him if Villa meet their multi-million pound compensation demand. Jol however won’t come cheaply with reports suggesting he is after a salary of around £2m-a-year. Villa are desperate to appoint a manager after Martin O’Neil’s shock walkout five days before the start of the season. The 54-year-old Jol twice guided Tottenham to fifth place before being sacked by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy after a poor start to the 2007/8 season. The Dutchman subsequently enjoyed success in Germany with Hamburg, taking them to fifth place in the Bundesliga and a UEFA Cup semi-final.
