Red Roy fires parting shot at Masch
(28-08-2010) Roy Hodgson has aimed a parting shot at Javier Mascherano, labelling the Argentine midfielder “selfish”. Mascherano left Liverpool on Friday to join Barcelona, citing the fact that his wife could not settle in England as the reason for the move. Earlier this week, Mascherano refused to play in the Reds EPL clash with Manchester City, with Hodgson accusing him of being unprofessional. "It is not easy for me to defend the actions (of Mascherano) because professionals are paid to play and when they are called on to play, they play," said Hodgson on Friday. "It is just a selfish situation that they have got something they want to do and they just expect the club to bow down and accept that they are going to do it.” Mascherano has agreed a four-year, £85,000-a-week contract and Barcelona expect him to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.
