Blues to miss out on Samba starlet and other red-hot gossip

(19-08-2010) Chelsea are set to miss out on signing Brazilian sensation Naymar after the striker's club Santos offered to make him their highest paid player. According to reports, Santos are refusing to accept any offers less than their valuation of £29m for the talented 18-year-old. The Blues have already had an offer of £17m for the player turned down. Elsewhere, Manchester United are eyeing Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna's Andres Guardado, and are prepared to pay £12m for the Mexican winger; Arsenal are close to sealing a deal for Sevilla's Sebastien Squillaci after the Spanish side withdrew the French defender from a Champions League qualifier; Tottenham will make a £15m bid for Sevilla’s Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano, but only if they qualify for the group stages of the Champions League; and Liverpool are weighing up an approach for the Manchester City duo Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge.
