German star snubs United for Real
(18-08-2010) Mesut Ozil has snubbed Manchester United in favour of joining Real Madrid. The Spanish giants signed the talented 21-year-old for £12m on Tuesday, beating off the Red Devils who were also very interested in the Werder Bremen player. "Ozil lands at Real after a standout performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," announced Real in a statement. "His unique touch, un-matched technique, excellent ball control and deadly last pass make him one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in European football." Ozil, who would have been available as a free agent next summer, joins compatriot Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu along with fellow new-boys Angel Di Maria and Ricardo Carvalho.
