Carrick determined to capture former glory

(16-08-2010) Michael Carrick is determined to return to top form after last season’s disappointments. The 29-year-old, who is one of the best passers of the ball in the EPL when he is on song, failed to hit his usual highs as the Red Devils surrendered their league title to Chelsea. And despite being part of England’s World Cup squad, he never saw any action in South Africa. Now he is hungry for success. "Last season was disappointing and I ended up having a hard summer," admitted Carrick on Sunday. "But this is my fifth season and during that time I have gained a lot of experience. I am more determined than ever." Carrick faces competition from Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and rising stars Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverley for the central midfield slots at Old Trafford this season.
