Owen ready to make major United splash

(24-08-2010) Michael Owen is champing at the bit after getting his first action of the new season at the weekend. The diminutive former England goal ace replaced Javier Hernandez after 74 minutes in United’s 2-2 draw against Fulham on Sunday. This marked his first fully competitive game for the Red Devils since he tore his hamstring in last season's Carling Cup Final win over Aston Villa. "When you're coming back, in some training sessions you feel absolutely great and then in others you feel heavy legged,” he said on Monday. "But now I feel fine, fit and ready to go." Owen faces a stiff challenge for a place in United’s starting line-up from Rooney, Berbatov and new signings Hernandez and Bebe. He added: "The fans are really excited about the new signings, particularly Javier. He looks really sharp in training and in games.”
