Wenger confident Gunners will be contenders

Arsenal will challenge for the EPL title this season, insists manager Arsene Wenger. The Gunners finished third last season. Many however expect them to struggle in the new campaign because they have failed to significantly strengthen their squad. They have spent just £8.5m on defender Laurent Koscielny while Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh joins them on a free transfer. In contrast a team like Manchester City have spent £80m on just four players. "I am very confident we'll do better than last season," Wenger told the club's website on Thursday. "We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money. We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off." Arsenal's pre-season preparations continue against AC Milan on Friday in the Emirates Cup.
