Forlan is star of the show

Diego Forlan capped an unforgettable four weeks by walking off with the Golden Ball for the best player at the World Cup on Sunday. The Uruguay striker, who finished the tournament as the joint highest goal scorer alongside David Villa and Thomas Muller with five goals each, almost single-handedly fired the South American minnows into the semi-finals of the tournament. The award is determined by a vote from the international media, with the Atletico Madrid player polling 23.4%, narrowly beating Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder - second with 21.8% - while Spain’s David Villa was third. Germany’s Mueller was named by Fifa as the best young player of the tournament, while Spain’s Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper. Casillas conceded only two goals in seven matches.
