Fergie’s challenge to Macheda

Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged young Manchester United striker Federico Macheda to prove he has what it takes to be a success at Old Trafford. The 18-year-old Italian burst onto the scene for United in the latter stages of the 2008-09 season, scoring a few crucial goals as the club landed the EPL title. However, he struggled to make an impression last season as the Red Devils surrendered the championship to Chelsea. Now there is talk of a possible loan move for the former Lazio player. “Federico is one of the brightest talents in the EPL and will make the transition to senior football shortly,” commented Fergie on Tuesday. “This coming season is an important one for him and I think he should stay at Old Trafford and challenge for a place in the starting line-up. He definitely is good enough.”
