United move to keep star

Manchester United are pulling out all the stops to keep star defender Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford. Recent reports have linked the Serbian hardman with a move to Real Madrid. He is said to be unhappy with his current £70,000-a-week contract at United which is far less than his defensive partner Rio Ferdinand who is on a reported £110,000 a week. The Red Devils are now ready to offer the 28-year-old a new four-year deal worth £90,000 a week, which equates to about a £1m a year pay rise in order to ward off interest from Real. Vidic has apparently told friends he remains undecided about his future. United however hope by moving fast they will persuade him to stay.
