Iniesta’s tribute to tragic mate

Andres Iniesta has revealed that the message on the t-shirt he wore under his Spain national jersey during the World Cup final was in tribute to a former teammate. The little magician ripped off his jersey to reveal the white undershirt, which had the message ‘Dani Jarque siempre con nosotros’ written on it, after he rammed home his extra-time goal to clinch the World Cup against Holland on Sunday. Dani Jarque was a young Espanyol player who died of a heart attack aged just 26 in August last year. Iniesta played alongside Dani in the Spain Under-21 team and youth sides. "This was a spectacular occasion for me to pay homage to my beloved friend. The goal came from a pass from Dani,” revealed Iniesta afterwards.
