Pires ready to suffer for Villa
(20-11-2010) Robert Pires expects a tough debut for new club Aston Villa on Sunday. The 37-year-old Frenchman, who has not played competitively for six months after being released by Villareal in the summer, looks set to play some part in Villa’s clash with Blackburn. "I know I will suffer with fitness," said the World Cup winner on Friday."For the next game it's going to be difficult for me but I am very excited about playing for this club." He said that his goal was to help Villa try and win silverware. "I would love to win a trophy - the Carling Cup or FA Cup. It would be nice to compete for a Champions League place too. I love to have objectives and challenges," added Pires. The veteran midfielder scored 84 goals in 284 appearances for Arsenal between 2000 and 2006, and was part of the Gunners team ‘Invincibles’ team.
