Blue giants set to bid it out for Benfica star

(30-11-2010) Chelsea and Manchester City are set to fight it out for highly-rated Benfica defender David Luiz. The 23-year-old Brazilian ace, who can play in central defence and as a left-back, is desperate for a move away from Portugal and was said to be unhappy that Benfica turned down an offer from Chelsea in the summer. But following the club’s early exit from the Champions League, they are now desperate to cash in on one of their star players. "Going out of the Champions League affected our financial plans. We want to re-evaluate the situation," said a Benfica insider on Monday. This has alerted both Chelsea and City who are set for a bidding war in order to land the £25m-rated star.
