Blues desperate to land Brazilian defender

(17-11-2010) Cheslea are set to launch a desperate bid to sign highly-rated centre-back David Luiz from Benfica in January. The Brazilian star is valued at a £25m with the Blues happy to fork out the cash following the announcement on Monday that both John Terry and Alex could be out for months with a leg nerve problem and knee knack respectively. And with the club’s only other senior central defender Branislav Ivanovic one yellow card away from suspension, defensive cover has become a priority for Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. Chelsea were linked to Luiz in the summer but he was felt to be too expensive at the time.
