Fergie hails Roo’s spot-kick courage
(25-11-2010) Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Wayne Rooney’s enormous courage in taking an 87th minute penalty in Wednesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over Rangers. The victory booked the Red Devils their place in the Champions League knockout stage of the world’s leading club competition. Rooney was making his first start since ending speculation over his future by signing a new five-year contract. "It took a lot of courage to take the penalty kick," Ferguson told ITV 1 afterwards. "It was not an easy night, he missed a couple of chances but that's what you expect with the rustiness in his game. We are pleased for him." He added: "Every time he scores a goal he wants to celebrate with the fans and players." The goal was only Rooney’s second of the season, the other also coming from the penalty spot.
