Broken promises shattered the dream – Rafa

Rafa Benitez on Saturday insisted that if he walks away from Liverpool it will be with a clear conscience because of the broken promises and shattered dreams that surround his reign at Anfield. Laying the blame for the club’s failure to land the EPL title during his six-year stewardship firmly at the feet of the club’s American directors, Benitez said: “When I signed a contract extension last year, it was because the squad was good and I was told the money would be there. In the end, things changed. We have had a bad season because the conditions of my job changed” Fuelling speculation that he could now be headed for Juventus, he added: “Hopefully things will be different in the future, but at the moment I can’t talk about the future because I don’t know what is going on here.”
