City to throw money at Anfield duo

Manchester City are set for a summer spending spree with Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres their prime targets. Reports leaking out of Eastlands claim the club are lining up an £80m package for the Anfield legends, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Stephen Ireland moving in the opposite direction. A stumbling block for City could be their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League although they remain confident that the right cash offer will entice Gerrard and Torres. Adebayor, who has four years left on a staggering contract worth £150,000 a week at City, is valued at £30m, while Ireland is worth around £10m following a disappointing season.
