Reds a dismal failure – Yossi
Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is stunned by the club’s dismal season, calling their failure to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in nine years a “massive failure." "Expectations were high after battling Manchester United in last season's title race but nothing worked right from the start. Xabi Alonso left for Real Madrid, we had a few bad early results and the leading pack just went away,” commented the Israeli. "Our problems began escalating and after two months we saw that the leading pack were running away and we began changing our targets.” Liverpool eventually finished seventh in the EPL. Added Benayoun: "It's been a massive failure as, for nine years, Liverpool has been an integral part of the Champions League and it's very disappointing. Add in rumours about a potential club sale and whether the coach is going and it all got negative."
