Whopper for stopper and other transfer rumours

Manchester United’s interest in CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev looks set to cool after the Russian club slapped a £25m price tag on the glovesman. Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping tabs on Akinfeev as he searches for a long-term successor for the ageing Edwin van der Sar. The Red Devils value the 23-year-old stopper, who has played against them in the Champions League this season, at £14m. Elsewhere, Barcelona look set to cool their interest in Manchester City's Robinho after opening discussions with Valencia forward David Silva; Chelsea are chasing the signature of highly-rated Ipswich 16-year-old Connor Wickham; and Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is ready to offer Manchester United reserve ‘keeper Ben Foster first team football as a replacement for Craig Gordon who has a broken arm.
