Drogba plays for the dead

Free-scoring Chelsea goal ace Didier Drogba has revealed the heartache that spurs him on. On 29 March 2009 Drogba featured for his native Cote d’Ivoire against Malawi at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan. Before the match was over 19 fans lay dead after being buried under a stampede when a gate collapsed and crowds surged into the already cramped stadium to watch the World Cup qualifier. "Now I play for the people who came to see us and never came back," Drogba revealed to The News of World newspaper. "They say that 19 people died, but I think it was more," he continues. "It's the reason we have to do well at the World Cup, it's what the supporters wanted. We can't bring the kids back, but we'd like to bring their parents a little joy."
