Vieira set for EPL return and other transfer rumours

Tottenham are set to fight it out with Liverpool for the signature of former Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira in the January transfer window. The 33-year-old Frenchman, who now plays for Inter Milan, is desperate for first team football in order to secure a place in France’s World Cup squad. Vieira is willing to accept a significant wage cut to £35,000-a-week in order to return to England but will not endear himself to the Arsenal faithful should he join Spurs as their north London neighbours are their most hated rivals. Elsewhere, Manchester United are on the verge of signing Cardiff's teenage defender Adam Matthews for £5m; Tottenham have tied up a £4m deal to bring Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra to White Hart Lane; and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Portugal international defender Miguel after he fell out with Valencia coach Unai Emery.
