Roy sacked as King Kenny steps in

(09-01-2011) Roy Hodgson has been axed as Liverpool manager. The 63-year-old Englishman was on Saturday replaced by club legend Kenny Dalglish. "We are grateful for Roy's efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager," said John Henry, of club owners New England Sports Ventures. Hodgson, who took over from Rafa Benitez at the start of the season, oversaw Liverpool's worst start to a campaign since 1953/54 - when they were relegated. They currently lie in 12th place just four points above the relegation zone. "It's a great honour to be asked to come back, it's unfortunate circumstances because a very good man with great dignity and integrity has lost his job," said Dalglish, whose first game in charge is an FA Cup third round tie against Manchester United on Sunday.
