Reds must pay ‘obscene’ amount for Suarez and other red-hot gossip

(19-01-2011) Liverpool have been told that only an "obscene" offer will be enough to land Luis Suarez from Ajax. The Reds however are not prepared to pay more than £22m for the Uruguay striker who scored 49 goals in 48 appearances in the Dutch league last season. Elsewhere, Chelsea are close to sealing a deal for Benfica defender David Luiz after making an improved offer of £21m for the Brazilian; Real Madrid are preparing a substantial bid for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as they look to address a lack of effective attacking options; Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is in advanced talks over a switch to Fulham; and Newcastle and Tottenham are believed to be interested in Italian World Cup winner Mauro Camoranesi, with Stuttgart having confirmed the 34-year-old midfielder is surplus to requirements.
