Blues’ big splurge fails
(26-01-2010) A mega-money move by Chelsea to buy two rising stars of world football from Atletico Madrid has failed. According to reports, the Blues offered the Spanish side a whopping £52m Sergio Aguero and Diego Godin but were rebuffed. Aguero, the son-in-law of Argentine legend Diego Maradona, has a £38m get-out clause in his Atletico contract. He has scored 89 goals in 217 games for the club. Uruguyan defender Godin has 43 international caps. "Yesterday I received an offer of £38m from Real Madrid for Aguero and I said 'no',” revealed Atletico general director Miguel Angel Gil Marin on Tuesday. "This very week Chelsea were giving me £52m for him and Godin and I told them exactly the same thing.”
