Fergie hails Webb’s decisions
(10-01-2011) Sir Alex Ferguson reckons World Cup final referee Howard Webb was correct in awarding his side a fourth minute penalty in Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Ryan Giggs scored from the spot as the Red Devils road out 1-0 winners against their fierce rivals. "It was a penalty," insisted Fergie afterwards. "Dimitar says he was definitely clipped. The replay shows he (Daniel Agger) slightly touched him but the momentum is enough to bring the player down. There is no reason for him to go down anyway. He is not that kind of player.” The Scot also said Webb was right to send off Steven Gerrard for a lunging tackle on Michael Carrick. "As for the sending off, there was no doubt. It was two-footed and he was off the ground. Steven Gerrard is not that type of player but it was a reckless challenge."
