Top foreign star commits to Reds
Tough tackling midfielder Javier Mascherano is on the verge of committing his future to Liverpool. The Argentina captain has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, but with the Spanish giant’s interest cooling he now looks set to sign a new £20million (£90,000-a-week) contract with the Reds. "I have never said I was not happy at Liverpool. I am happy here and the only way I can show that is with my performances on the pitch,” said Mascherano on Thursday. "I always try to do everything I can to help my team-mates and manager. Sometimes I can do well and sometimes I can't, but I always look to give 100% in training and in games." Barca are now expected to turn their attention to signing Cesc Fabregas, Franck Ribery, and possibly Wayne Rooney.
