Spurs to splurge and other red-hot gossip

Tottenham are set for a splurge on new players in the summer. According to reports the north Londoners are hot on the heels of Brazilian midfielder Sandro for £6m and are sounding out clubs in Belgium about taking Zambian left-back Emmanuel Mbola on loan after the London club agreed a £1m deal to sign the teenager from Armenian club Yerevan. But any big spending by Harry Redkanpp will largely depend on them claiming the fourth Champions League place. Elsewhere, Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, is eyeing a shock re-call to the England side; Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has called a crisis meeting of his players in an attempt to stamp out the discord that threatens the very fabric of the club; and former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has agreed to manage Cote d’Ivoire at the 2010 World Cup - providing he can negotiate an early release from his contract as Russia.
