Rio blasts hapless linesman
Crocked England skipper Rio Ferdinand has blasted linesman Mauricio Espinosa for wrecking his country’s World Cup dream. England were trounced 4-1 by Germany on Sunday. But with the score locked at 2-1, the Three Lions had a perfectly legitimate Frank Lampard goal disallowed when Espinosa failed to see the ball cross the line. Ferdinand insists the equaliser would've spurred his countrymen on to victory. "If Lamps' goal had stood it would have been 2-2 and then the game would've turned on its head. We'd have been at full throttle. I'm sure we'd have gone on to win it,” said Ferdinand from London. "It wasn't like a counter-attack or something, he was up there with the run of play. He has to be able to see that," added the Manchester United defender, who also insisted football introduces technology to prevent such a thing happening again in the future.
