Defoe hits back at Der Kaiser

Jermain Defoe has hit back at German football legend Franz Beckenbauer for his England taunts. Beckenbauer, who is known as ‘Der Kaiser’, branded England "stupid" for finishing behind USA in Group C - leaving them to face the Germans in the last 16 on Sunday. "You're never going to get into a position where everyone says nice things about you all the time,” said Defoe on Thursday. "But we can't get side-tracked, we have to concentrate on ourselves." The Tottenham striker also scoffed at Beckenbauer’s suggestions that England were “burnt out”. "I don't feel tired. The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues to play in but, if you look after your body and prepare right, you shouldn't have a problem" added Defoe. Beckenbauer is only one of two people to have won the World Cup as both a player (1974) and a manager (1990).
