Gunners release French star and other red-hot gossip

Arsenal have released veteran defender William Gallas, increasing speculation that they will make a move for Everton star Phil Jagielka. According to a report in the Sunday Mirror, the Gunners failed to agree to Gallas demand of a new two-year contract on wages of £80,000 a week. With Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre also released, Arsenal are likely to spend up to £20m on Jagielka. Elsewhere, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is set to make a £30m bid to sign Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United; Negotiations are set to begin between Tottenham and Aston Villa over a swap deal involving Robbie Keane heading to Villa Park, with Gabriel Agbonlahor going to Spurs; and Valencia midfielder David Silva has rejected a move to Manchester City because they cannot offer Champions League football - however, EPL champions Chelsea are poised to bid for the £30m-rated 24-year-old.
