Green traumatised by howler

Goalkeeper Robert Green has held up his hands following his howler against USA in England’s World Cup opener on Saturday. The West Ham stopper allowed a tame shot from Clint Dempsey to slip through his hands five minutes before half-time to allow the Yanks back into the match following Steven Gerrard’s fourth minute opener. The match ended 1-1. But Green insists he will bounce back from the ‘trauma’ if selected to play against Algeria on 18 June. "It was a mistake," admitted Green. "Playing football when you're playing well is easy, it's the tough times that you deal with. At a younger point in my life it would have affected me more and it has in the past. But once it is done, you turn round, pick the ball out of the back of the net and say that's that and move on."
