England suffer massive World Cup blow
Rio Ferdinand’s World Cup dream is over! In a major blow to England, their captain suffered a knee injury in training on Friday that will keep him out of the finals in South Africa. The 31-year-old Manchester United defender has been ruled out for six weeks. He will be replaced by Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson, while Steven Gerrard will take over as England captain for the tournament. Ferdinand suffered the injury late in training in a challenge with striker Emile Heskey. "Everyone with the squad is very disappointed and sorry for Rio," said England manager Fabio Capello. "It was an accidental injury in training, but had nothing to do with the pitch."
