Bleak future awaits Santa Cruz

(01-09-2010) Roque Santa Cruz faces time picking up splinters on the bench at Manchester City after a move to Lazio collapsed on Tuesday. And with City expected to trim their squad down to the EPL stipulated 25 players, he could even end up training with the reserves unless a loan deal can be sorted out. "I have always been happy at City and was looking forward to the season and to being part of a great club here,” revealed the 29-year-old on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, the manager has told me he won't be counting me for the rest of the season. All I can do is train hard, not get angry, prove my fitness and hope a loan can be sorted out. Lazio were there to take me but a deal could not be agreed." Santa Cruz cost City £18m from Blackburn two season’s ago.
