Hansen likens new boy to Reds legend

(10-09-2010) Liverpool great Alan Hansen believes new Reds signing Raul Meireles has what it takes to become the club’s ‘new’ Terry McDermott. The 27-year-old Portugal star joined Liverpool for £17m as a direct replacement for Javier Mascherano before the end of the transfer window. And despite not having kicked a ball in a Liverpool shirt, Hansen has likened him to one of the club’s most esteemed players. "The closest thing we had to Meireles would have been Terry McDermott,” said Hansen on Thursday. "He was the same type of energetic box-to-box midfielder."
