Play me, pleads Rooney

(02-10-2010) Wayne Rooney has pleaded with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to keep faith with him. The England striker has enjoyed a miserable season so far, scoring a single goal while battling a persistent ankle injury. He has also had to deal with saucy revelations about his private life following allegations of romps with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant. He now wants to play as much as possible to rediscover his form. "All footballers get left out at some stage. I never want to be left out. I want to play every game,” said Rooney on Friday. "But that is the manager's decision. The best advice for me is just to play. When you are not playing at your best, you need to continue playing and doing the simple things. Then your form will come good." Rooney is set to miss Saturday’s clash with Sunderland.
