Becks backs Real for La Liga crown

(28-10-2010) David Beckham reckons his former club Real Madrid will wrest the La Liga crown from arch-enemies Barcelona this season. The Meringues have not won a trophy since 2008, with Barca establishing themselves as the undoubted best team in Spain if not Europe. But after a fine 12-game unbeaten start under new manager Jose Mourinho, Beckham believes Madrid can come out on top this season. "As much as I respect Barcelona and think it's a great club, my heart is always with Real Madrid,” said the Englishman. "So I believe that this year, with the manager they've got in, with Florentino (Perez, Madrid president), with the players they've got at the club, I believe they will be number one this year." Beckham spent four years at the Bernabeu before moving to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.
