Real threat of Rooney leaving

(18-10-2010) Real Madrid are set to offer Manchester United £50m plus French star Karim Benzema to land Wayne Rooney. According to a report in The Sun newspaper, the Spanish giant’s manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to land Rooney and knows United chief Alex Ferguson is a fan of Frenchman Benzema. "Our problem is who to get rid of if Wayne Rooney comes here,” Madrid managing director Jorge Valdano is quoted as saying. “We have a brilliant strikeforce in Ronaldo and Higuain and now we have added Ozil and Di Maria to complement them." Speculation around Rooney’s future with United has increased recently as he has failed to sign a new contact. Rumours are that the Red Devils do not believe they can justify a £150,000-a-week deal for a player whose stock has fallen dramatically in recent months following a forgettable World Cup and lurid revelations about his private life.
