Relief at Rooney injury news
England fans breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday with the news that Wayne Rooney will be fit for the World Cup. For Manchester United fans however, an anxious time awaits as their star striker will be sidelined for three weeks with ligament damage to his ankle suffered against Bayern Munich earlier this week. In a best-case scenario Rooney will play in the club's last four league matches of the current campaign. "The nation can stop praying. It's not as serious as it looked at first," said Ferguson on Thursday. Rooney will certainly miss United’s next three matches, starting with Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea. A club statement on Thursday confirmed: "We're pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture (to his ankle). The scan revealed only minor ligament damage." England’s first World Cup game in South Africa is on 12 June against the USA.
